Lancelot

The Baroque family of the Western Continent had produced knights for seven generations — men and women of iron discipline, unshakeable loyalty, and martial excellence that was the envy of every noble house in the realm. Lancelot was their crown jewel: the most gifted swordsman the family had ever produced, a prodigy who had mastered the Baroque Sword Style by age twelve and invented three new techniques by age sixteen.

He was also, by every account, insufferably aware of his own brilliance.

Lancelot's arrogance was not the petty vanity of a man who had never been tested — it was the cold certainty of someone who had been tested repeatedly and had never once been found wanting. And everyone, without exception, found him deeply irritating.

The crack in his perfect armor came in the form of his younger sister, Odette — a gentle soul whose magical gifts were as extraordinary as his martial ones. When Odette was captured by the forces of the Abyss during a border skirmish, Lancelot did something he had never done before: he panicked. For the first time in his life, the calculations failed him. The outcomes were not in his favor.
