Alucard

The name Alucard is not the one he was born with. It is the name he chose — a declaration of identity, a rejection of the legacy that was thrust upon him before he could speak.

His father was a demon lord of considerable power, his mother a human woman of extraordinary will who refused to be broken by her captivity. Alucard inherited both: his father's supernatural strength and regenerative power, his mother's iron determination and her hatred of the darkness that had stolen her freedom.

When his mother finally escaped — carrying him with her — she raised him in the borderlands between the human world and the demon realm, teaching him to fight with both sword and sorcery, to use his demonic heritage as a weapon against the very forces that had created it. He was a difficult student, not because he lacked talent, but because he burned with a rage that threatened to consume him.

The rage never fully left. But he learned to direct it.

Now Alucard hunts demons across the Land of Dawn, his great sword drinking deep of their essence with every kill. He is neither fully human nor fully demon — something new, something that has no name in the old taxonomies. He has made peace with this. The old categories were never adequate to contain him anyway.

He fights alone, by preference. Not because he distrusts his allies, but because the darkness inside him is easier to manage when he is not responsible for anyone else's safety. In the heat of battle, when the demon blood rises and the world narrows to the simple clarity of kill or be killed, he cannot always guarantee that the line between enemy and ally will remain clear.
