Eudora

The Mage Academy of the Imperial City has produced many great wizards over its four-hundred-year history. It has produced precisely one Eudora, and the faculty is still divided on whether that is a blessing or a catastrophe.

Eudora arrived at the Academy at age fourteen with no formal training, no family connections, and an uncanny ability to generate static electricity that had already destroyed two sets of furniture and one very unfortunate cat. The admissions committee, after a brief and somewhat singed deliberation, admitted her on the grounds that it was safer to have her inside the Academy than outside it.

She proved to be a prodigy of the first order. The lightning arts, which typically took students a decade to master, came to Eudora as naturally as breathing. Within three years she had surpassed her instructors. Within five she had developed techniques that the Academy's theoretical texts had declared impossible. Within seven she had accidentally destroyed the east wing of the library during a particularly enthusiastic experiment.

The Academy asked her to leave. Politely, but firmly, and with a substantial repair bill.

Eudora was not particularly bothered. The Land of Dawn was full of battles that needed winning, and she had always found the Academy's obsession with theory over practice somewhat tedious. She took her staff, her spellbooks, and her absolute mastery of electrical devastation, and went to find something worth striking.

She found plenty.
